Thomas D. Carey
Thomas D. Carey joined the University of Oklahoma faculty in 1969 after decades of experience as an operatic lead in opera and concert houses throughout Europe. He was fluent in English and German, and also sang in Italian, French and Spanish. At OU, he proceeded through the faculty ranks to become Professor of Music in 1977. Through his connections, he brought many international vocal artists to perform at OU concerts and events. Thomas and his late wife, Carol, founded the Cimarron Circuit Opera Company to provide young singers an opportunity to hone their talents and forge their professional careers. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 1997. Thomas D. Carey died on January 23, 2002.
