Robert Murphy
Robert Moore Murphy was an effective spokesman for Oklahoma higher education during his career as a legislator in the Oklahoma State Senate. A lawyer, Murphy earned his J.D. degree from the University of Arkansas Law School in 1943. A resident of Stillwater, Murphy represented Payne, Lincoln and Creek counties from 1962 to 1981. His major assignment was chairman of the Higher Education Committee. Murphy was the driving force behind the creation of the OSU Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory at OSU, the Displaced Homemaker’s Vo-Tech Program, and the Oklahoma Student Loan Program. Murphy was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2000.
