Melvin D. Jones
Melvin D. Jones was born on a farm near Boswell, the youngest of ten children. This eminent Oklahoma philanthropist grew up during the Depression. He became an educator, author, scientist, diplomat and business executive. In 1949, he became the youngest full-professor in the history of Oklahoma State University. Jones later entered the insurance field, eventually becoming president of two major insurance companies. A tireless worker for higher education in Oklahoma and a leading benefactor, Jones was a driving force in bestowing student scholarships, leading capital fund campaigns, and working for legislative support. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 1996.
