J. Paschal Twyman
J. Paschal Twyman came to the University of Tulsa in 1967 as vice president for Research and Development. In June of 1968, at the age thirty-four, he became the eighteenth president of TU, where he served for twenty-one years before his untimely death in 1989. He came to Tulsa from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and spent six years before that at Oklahoma State University. At his death, colleagues wrote this tribute: “As a man of uncompromised vision, he enriched our academic environment, encouraged the pursuit of excellence, and inspired greatness both on this campus and beyond.” Twyman was inducted posthumously into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 1999.
