G. Raney Williams
G. Raney Williams was an outstanding faculty member and practicing surgeon at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine from 1958 to 1997. He served as chair of the Department of Surgery, and was three times Interim Dean of the college. In 1964, Williams reattached the arm of an OSU basketball player, becoming the fourth surgeon to perform that surgery successfully. He performed the state's first cardiac bypass surgery at University Hospital. In 1991, he received the prestigious Stanton L. Young Master Teacher award. Williams was beloved as a teacher, administrator, researcher and surgeon. He was an Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductee in 1986, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2003.
