Frances Davis
Frances Dinsmore Davis was Dean of Fine Arts at the Oklahoma College for Women from 1920 until her retirement in 1958. She earned a B.A. degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1924 and an M.A. in Theater from the University of Michigan in 1937. Davis produced 200 plays during her career at OCW, ranging from farces and comedies to Greek and Roman classics. Her Shakespearian dramas rivaled those of professional troupes. She entered the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1946. The Fine Arts building on the campus of the University of Science and Arts was renamed Davis Hall in 1975, two years after her death in 1973. She was inducted posthumously into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2002.
