Donald G. Wagner
Dr. Donald G. Wagner serves as the Regents Professor and Department head, Department of Animal Science at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Wagner joined OSU faculty in 1965 as an Assistant Professor at OSU’s Ethiopian Program with Haile Sellassie I University, College of Agriculture, Animal Science Department. In 1968, Wagner returned to Stillwater to serve as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Regents Professor and Department Head of Animal Science. Wagner is well known and nationally and industry-widely recognized for his effective lectures that emphasized scientific principles and practical application for all classes of livestock. He has been honored with 19 esteemed College of Agriculture, university-wide, and industry recognitions. Wagner has also been specifically chosen to be OSU’s honoree in a nationwide salute to faculty members who are giving extraordinary educational leadership to their campuses and beyond from the Carnegie Foundation and American Association of Higher Education. More recently, Wagner was again honored with recognition of being an outstanding administrator from the Gamma Sigma Delta organization. Through his leadership, a state-of-the-art beef cattle receiving and feedlot research facility was funded and completed to become one of the world’s most modern and unique swine research and educational facilities. Because of Wagner’s leadership and vision, OSU’s Animal Science Department has maintained a balance of faculty and programs in teaching, research and extension while positioning the college to meet the needs of students and stakeholders well into Oklahoma’s future.
