Alfred M. Philips
Alfred M. Philips was the founding president of Tulsa Junior College, selected in 1969 from a national pool to lead that institution. Philips had previously served presidencies at Big Bend Community College in the State of Washington, and at Sheridan College, Wyoming. He also was First Vice Chancellor of the Dallas, Texas Community-College System. Philips guided Tulsa Junior College from a one-campus college with 2,800 students to a multi-campus operation with more than 19,000 students. He was chairman of the Council of North Central Community College Presidents in 1978-79, and a member of the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame. Philips was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 1995.
