Father Michael Roethler

Father Michael Roethler, O.S.B., served as president, fundraiser, and chief ambassador for St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Affable, gifted, and tireless, Fr. Mike served as a resident adviser, Dean of Men, baseball coach, and athletic director before becoming St. Gregory’s president in 1970. He graduated from St. Gregory’s high school in 1947 and joined the Benedictine community of St. Gregory’s Abbey in 1949. After earning a master’s degree from the Catholic University of America and a doctorate from Fordham University, he returned to St. Gregory’s. Roethler was a charter member of the Oklahoma State Ethics Commission. He died in 1995, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 1997.
